Farewell to the Aston Martin Rapide S

Considering the report of Aston Martin creating !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , it would seem that the Rapide S is confirmed to a death sentence after this generation. I guess “Lagonda” will become a subbrand for all 4-door Aston Martins. Today we say goodbye to the happiest little catfish and the only 4-door sedan that can’t fit a childseat through it’s rear door opening.

Sweet, sweet Rapide. You were the only reason for the Panamera to be optioned up to $200k and for Porsche to create an Exclusive Series. But in your place, a Lagonda Lite will rise up and prove that striving for long awaited adequacy is enough to justify a sedan that costs more than a Texas dream home.

Now that we are done with the eulogy, I have to say I wish the Rapide S got a front end refresh similar to the Lagonda Taraf instead of the current Stay Puft face. The Lagonda becoming two sedans is exciting because it means Aston Martin will be broadening the brand in order to compete directly with Bentley and Rolls Royce.

Now, considering that Bentley is going to make that DB11/Vantage fighting EXP10 Speed 6 thing (and be a sub-5,000 lb Bentley!), we get to pay testament to Bentley creating a true Aston Martin rival. Which then highlights that Rolls Royce will need to build some kind of super SUV. I’m talking a Hyper Utility Vehicle able to go where a Unimog goes without spilling your fourth favorite bottle of Chateau Lafite-Rothschild across steer hide #47, which we all know makes up 34 mm of the starboard door armrests.

A lot more was revealed today than intended, methinks.
